There are a number of different models of paper log making machines, but the basic principle relies on using machinery to compress pieces of paper tightly together in order to make a compact, solid log of fuel. Excess papers are soaked so that they soften and congeal to each other, then they're fed into the machine and compacted with use of the levers or dowels. Once extracted they can be set aside to thoroughly dry, at which point they're ready to be used as fuel. This creates a twofold benefit over sticking to traditional fuel only. For starters this is a very money-efficient way of getting extra fuel for your fireplace. It uses a resource you've already bought and likely have lying around the home in stacks, such as newspapers. This can replace or at least reduce the amount of money you spend on traditional logs, making the papers you've bought into a more efficient investment. Secondly it helps reduce the environmental impact that getting firewood and more papers would normally have. Most homes simply throw their old papers out or recycle them, and these papers have to be disposed of, or chemically bleached for reuse later, this creates problems of storage, infrastructure, and the other associated matters that come with recycling. By instead stockpiling the papers into compressed logs, you help reduce your input into this system while saving your own money. |
